DaimlerChrysler forms MTU Detroit Diesel

MTU Friedrichshafen and Detroit Diesel have formed a new division — MTU Detroit Diesel — for North American off-highway engine activities. The group, which will be part of DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway and a division of Detroit Diesel, will have responsibility for the application engineering, manufacturing, sale and service of off-highway engine products in North American marine, construction, industrial, power generation, petroleum and defense markets. MTU Detroit Diesel will continue building the Series 4000, Series 2000 and Off-Highway Series 60 engines at the Detroit Diesel engine manufacturing facility in Redford, Mich.
