Visit your local Liebherr dealership this summer and you might catch the newest hydrostatically powered wheel loaders on tour. Liebherr models L538, L544, L564 and L580 are on tour across the country as part of their introduction to the American market.
The machines, which were first unveiled at the 2003 ICUEE show, feature special “streak design” paint schemes. As part of the wheel loader tour, Liebherr will be conducting a standardized fuel consumption test the company calls the “Norm Test.” The test involves placing an external 1.3-gallon fuel tank on each wheel loader in the test, including the Liebherr model and a competitive machine. The machines are run through identical loading cycles until the machine runs out of fuel. The loads are then counted and the fuel consumption and production rates are calculated.
“The fully hydrostatic driveline contributes to outstanding fuel efficiency and ease of operation,” said Georg Seyrlehner, product manager for the wheel loaders. “Our fuel test is a simple way to demonstrate that while comparing our wheel loaders to competitive machines.”
