Komatsu has updated its WA270 wheel loader with a new model the company says provides more fuel efficiency and more comfort for the operator through an updated cab.
Powered by a Tier 4 Final, 6.69-liter Komatsu SAA6D107E-3 engine, the WA270-8 is a 149-horsepower wheel loader Komatsu says can be used in virtually any application. The engine uses selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet emissions requirements and performs 98 percent of DPF regeneration passively without the need for operator action.
The engine provides a 3-percent improvement in fuel efficiency over the previous generation’s Tier 4 Interim engine in V-cycle loading, and a 2-percent fuel boost in load-and-carry applications.
The engine is paired with a hydrostatic transmission with variable traction control and an S-mode which provides extra traction control to reduce wheel slip in snowy, icy or slippery conditions.
The loader features a parallel-lift linkage with auto tilt-in to simulate a Z-bar. A creep mode allows the operator to dial in travel speed from 1 to 8 miles per hour via a knob on the console.
Inside the cab, operators will find a new high-back heated seat Komatsu says is more comfortable than previous seats thanks to how it softens vibrations. The cab also includes a 7-inch color monitor for viewing ecology guidance and Komtrax telematics data, a full-color rear view monitor and an auxiliary jack and two 12-volt ports.
The WA270-8 also features gull-wing engine doors and a swing-out, hydraulically-driven cooling fan with auto-reversing. Full rear fenders are an available option.
