Lumina’s Bladerunner, Moonlander, Roadrunner Futuristic, Modular Machines

As Lumina plans to begin production of its all-electric Moonlander dozer, the company has also set schedules for deploying more battery-powered heavy-duty equipment that can also be run autonomously or by remote control.

Though it has only three base machines in the works — Moonlander dozer, Bladerunner excavator and Roadrunner wheel loader — their modular designs enable a multitude of construction equipment. Out of those three base models, the company says, it can transform the machines into a motor grader, dump truck, compactor, scraper, crane, drill, water tanker, just about anything you could want on a jobsite.

For instance, the Bladerunner B2 excavator, set for deployment in the first quarter of 2027, can be converted to a crane or drill. The Roadrunner Wheel Loader R2, set for the first quarter of 2028, can be transformed into a dump truck, motor grader or compactor. The Moonlander dozer can also operate as a scraper, water tanker and other machinery as it can handle up to nine attachments, and it pushes with a 16-foot-wide blade.

Along with their modular designs, the tech firm’s construction machines all have a minimalistic, futuristic look with black and white exteriors.

Moonlander Dozer Prepares for Takeoff

Moonlander LuminaLumina’s first construction machine is the Moonlander ML6 dozer, which it unveiled last year as a prototype.

Company CEO Ahmed Shubber reported on LinkedIn September 22 that after four years of designing the Moonlander platform, the company cut the first piece of steel in-house for the "Gen 2 Moonlander fleet."

"Over the next few months, you’re going to see a substantial fleet of Lumina machines roaming job sites," he posted on LinkedIn.

The company has been field testing the electric 32-ton Moonlander, which can be operated by person in the cab, remote control or autonomously. 

The dozer has a runtime of 8 to 10 hours and can be charged from 0% to 80% in 50 minutes, according to Lumina.

Shubber reported on LinkedIn the company has a $100 million backlog in Texas and is expanding into New York City, Florida and California. In another post, he said the Moonlander ML6 “is getting about a day and a half of intense duty cycle runs on a single charge.”

Lumina calls it “the most advanced dozer ever built.”

The low-ground-pressure dozer features a 16-foot-wide blade, 750 horsepower and 36-inch steel tracks. It also gets a three-shank ripper. The company says the dozer can tackle “any grading application, from highways and heavy civil work to mega-developments and full city-scale projects, with unmatched power and control.”

Moonlander configured as a scraperLuminaThe Moonlander can be configured with a 25-cubic-yard SU blade and as a high-speed (HS) configuration with reinforced rubber tracks. The HS version can be equipped with up to nine attachments — like a 15,000-gallon water tanker, a 50-cubic-yard articulated dump trailer, 34-cubic-yard-bowl scraper, soil stabilizers, tillers — and operate them at speeds up to 21 mph, the company says.

“Built to lift, dig, push and carry at extreme scale, all with zero emissions, this is the most versatile heavy-civil machine ever engineered,” according to Lumina.

Lumina Bladerunner Excavator, Crane and Drill

BladerunnerLuminaThe next product slated for Lumina is the Bladerunner B2 excavator, which can also be converted to a crane and slurry and core drills.

It is scheduled for deployment in the first quarter of 2027.

As an excavator it gets a 10-cubic-yard bucket and 1,000 horsepower. With dual electric and hydraulic lines, operators can swap attachments quickly.

LuminaAs a crane, it can lift 500 to 2,500 tons with containerized bolt-on counterweights. It is “engineered for everything from precision girder lifts in tight heavy civil sites to massive 2,500-ton refinery picks,” the company says.

As a slurry drill, it delivers wall-cutting depths up to 8 feet and bit lengths reaching 11.5 feet. Lumina says it is designed for retaining walls and deep-foundation construction “at massive scale.”

As a core drill, it delivers a cutting depth of 427 feet with diameters exceeding 16 feet, depending on the drill configuration.

Lumina Roadrunner R2 Wheel Loader, Hauler, Grader, Compactor

Roadrunner wheel loaderLuminaSet for first-quarter 2028, Lumina's modular Roadrunner wheel loader can be transformed into four machines to lift, haul, grade and compact.

As a wheel loader it gets a 14-cubic-yard bucket and 800 horsepower with its battery-electric motor. It features front and rear electrical and hydraulic connections for quick changes of attachments like forks, buckets, mulchers, etc.

Roadrunner converted to haulerLuminaIt can haul up to 150 tons with “a compact, stretched articulated chassis,” the company says. “Tight turning radiuses and extreme maneuverability let you move mountains of earth with total ease.”

Roadrunner motor graderLuminaThe Roadrunner can also be equipped with an 18-foot-wide blade to operate as a motor grader for large earthworks, heavy civil and highway projects.

And when you need a roller, a 10-foot-wide drum can be added for soil compaction, roadwork or on heavy civil projects.
