Volvo CE intros new C-Series motor graders with engine upgrades, better fuel consumption

Designed to handle a range of grading applications, Volvo has introduced its new C-Series motor graders, including the G930C, G940C, G946C (AWD) and G960C.

The series has Volvo’s D8J engines, which deliver a savings of up to 5 percent in fuel consumption compared to the previous models. The engines have three variable power ranges with a standard 8-speed transmission, and eight variable power ranges with an optional 11-speed transmission. Both transmissions provide self-calibration for smooth gear changes.

Additional features new to the graders include an engine idle shutdown system with variable time delay settings, an anti-theft system, LED headlights, LED work lights and a portable LED service light for the engine compartment.

The shuttle shift is pre-programmable for unrestricted gear shifts when moving between forward and reverse gears without using the brakes or inching pedal. The series also has a new brake application system that applies four independent multiple wet-disc brake units featuring cross-over actuation and accumulator back-up.

The C-Series’ cab has both noise insulation and climate control to ensure a comfortable operator experience and reduce fatigue. The ROPS/FOPS certified cab provides all-around visibility, including to the moldboard.

For hydraulics and steering, a choice of traditional levers and a steering wheel or optional joystick controls is available. The joystick controls incorporate transmission directional and gear upshift and downshift controls, as well as full plug-and-play compatibility for quick installation of automatic blade control systems. Moldboard hydraulic response is customizable via a touch screen. The Volvo Contronics instrument panel displays real-time machine operation and performance, and is integrated with the MATRIS system to record operational data points.

Easy serviceability is achieved through gull-wing engine doors, a hinged radiator grill and non-stacked cooling cores. All fill points are easily accessible and greasing is completed through grouped points.
