Almost one year after reopening two former Gee Heavy Machinery dealerships, Komatsu has opened a third in Redding, California, under the "Komatsu West" company-owned banner.
The company's new northernmost branch in California will offer sales, service, parts and rentals to the construction and forestry industries with a focus on the region’s forestry industry. The location’s open house will be October 1.
The location was previously owned and operated by Gee Heavy Machinery, in addition to three other Komatsu locations in Frenso, Sacramento and Fremont. Gee Heavy Machinery abruptly shuttered operations in July 2025 after less than two years as the official Komatsu distributor for North California after its parent company, auto dealership group Gee Automotive Companies, picked up the Komatsu contract from the previous distributor, Core Machinery, in December 2023.
A statement posted to Gee Heavy Machinery’s website on July 21, 2025, said the decision to close came “after a thoughtful and thorough evaluation of the long-term outlook for the business.” In April 2025, Gee Heavy Machinery and Heavy Equipment Management Company — a management company that oversaw Gee Heavy Machinery’s financial and accounting operations — appointed a new eight-member joint executive team. HEMCO’s website began winding down operations July 21, 2025.

A few months after reopening the first two Gee Heavy Machinery stores, Komatsu announced in January 2026 that its Komatsu West company-owned locations would add the full lineup of Komatsu Forestry products to its Sacramento, Fesno and Reno stores.
