Japanese manufacturer Morooka has brought its latest rotating crawler carrier, the MST160CR to the U.S., with higher travel speeds and technology upgrades.
The 306-horsepower MST160CR weighs 40,345 pounds and can haul up to 35,274 pounds. It runs on a Caterpillar C7.1 Tier 4 Final engine, and its bed rotates 360 degrees. It is the 11th crawler carrier model from Morooka for the U.S.
A key selling point on the MST160CR is its 8.1 mph top travel speed, which Morooka advertises as the fastest in the 16-ton class. The manufacturer also highlights the MST160CR’s 20-foot length and 10-foot width as making it similar in compactness to an 11-ton carrier, so there's no need for escort cars on the road.

Morooka has outfitted the MST160CR with auto-deceleration functions that lower engine speed after the travel control lever or swing control lever are left in neutral for too long. An anti-stall function enables the hydraulics to automatically sense large loads and adjust flow rates.
A new electronically controlled joystick lever allows travel direction to always match the lever direction, and the dump bed now has wear-resistant Hardox steel plate at the front of the inside for improved durability.
The MST160CR comes with an overload-prevention weighing function that allows operators to press one button and estimate the payload based on hydraulic pressure.

Standard features include a ROPS/FOPS cabin, LED bar type light, a removable pivot bracket for the undercarriage and omnidirectional cameras feeding a 3D bird’s eye view of the MST160CR to an in-cab monitor.
Other improvements compared to the MST110CR model include improved right-side visibility and boosted undercarriage durability via an extended crawler contact length.
