The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71. Chevy announced the 2016 model of the midsize pickup will have a diesel option.After announcing V-6 fuel economy for its upcoming 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon earlier this month, General Motors has now unveiled fuel economy numbers for the midsize pickups when equipped with a four-cylinder engine.
The 2.5-liter I-4 with two-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission will get 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 mpg highway for a combined 22 mpg. With a manual transmission, the numbers drop slightly to 19, 26, 22 mpg, respectively.
Meanwhile, when equipped with four-wheel drive, the trucks get 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for a combined 21 mpg.
When equipped with this I-4 engine, 2015 Colorado will start at $20,995 while the 2015 Canyon will start at $21,880.
The I-4 numbers solidify GM’s claim to the most fuel-efficient midsize pickups on the market. Even when equipped with a 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6, the 2WD Colorado and Canyon will get 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, for a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg.
GM previously announced that the trucks would launch as the most powerful midsize trucks on the market as well.
GM says the trucks began shipping to dealers last week. In an announcement of August truck sales, GM noted that pre-orders for both pickups were very strong.
