The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced their expectations to award nearly $5 million in grants for diesel-emission reduction projects in five Midwestern states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The grant funding will derive from the National Clean Diesel Campaign and are authorized by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This act gives the EPA authority to offer cooperative agreements to eligible organizations on a competitive basis.
Diesel emission reduction projects, engine upgrades, cleaner fuel use, vehicle or equipment replacement and the implementation of innovative financing programs for emission reduction are projects likely to receive grants. Participants are not limited to these categories however.
Engines and equipment ay include medium or heavy duty-trucks and non-road engines or vehicles. The deadline for project proposals is June 12, 2008.
