Covington, Ky.- Tools

Location: Covington, Kentucky
Theft Date: October 19
Value of stolen items: $12,000

Someone looted tools from a Pike Street construction site, cutting their way into lockers and pilfering nearly $12,000 in high-end equipment.

Workers arrived Monday, October 22 at the sprawling hillside construction site for The Views condominiums, near Twelfth and Pike streets, to find that three locked tool containers had been busted open and emptied of an assortment of power and hand tools, according to a police report.

Covington police suspect someone used a grinder to cut through locks on storage bins owned by Townsley Electric, Midwestern Plumbing and Forge Lumber. The police report indicates that the items stolen range in value from a $2,000 electric jackhammer to dozens of hand tools worth $15 to $20 each.

Workers told police that a contractor noticed a lock missing from one of the storage bins Saturday morning, suggesting that the thefts might have occurred the night before. Though tool thefts are a continual problem for police locally, this incident was a particularly costly one.
