JCB has purchased a 160,000-square-foot facility in Church Broughton, Derbyshire, where it plans to produce its own diesel engines. A new company – JCB Power Systems – has been formed to manufacture engines at the 12-acre site. JCB plans to equip the plant immediately and begin low-volume production at the end of 2004. The company announced in August plans to develop its own 4- and 6-liter diesel engines in a partnership with engine specialists Ricardo, AVL, Cosworth and Krause. The engines will be used in off-highway construction equipment.
