Bomag introduces segmented drums for BMP851 compactor

Bomag exhibited a compactor with new segmented drums, which allow operators to change the machine’s width, at World of Concrete last week in Las Vegas.

Segmented drums are standard equipment on the BMP851 multi-purpose compactor and provide the benefits of two machines for the price of one, said Doug Zoerb, administrator of marketing communications for Compaction America. Contractors can switch the BMP851’s working width between 33.5 and 24 inches.

“It’s something the contractor can do in the field in about 20 minutes,” Zoerb said.

This flexibility also allows rental centers to cater to contractors’ specific needs without replacing entire drum sets or carrying extra drums in inventory, he said.

Drum extensions attach to the drum base with three bolts. Two lifting handles on the inside of the extensions allow one person to pull off each segment.
