The Department of Homeland Security is suspending the implementation of it’s E-Verify program for contractors and subcontractors doing work for the federal government. The rule would have gone into effect January 15 and required anybody doing business with the federal government to use it’s electronic database to cross check social security numbers and names of workers in an attempt to stop the hiring of illegal aliens and undocumented workers. The suspension was prompted by a lawsuit by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
