Gerald L. Shaheen, group president of Caterpillar, has been elected to be the new chairman for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for 2006.
During his term, he will be responsible for figuring out steps that must be taken to allow the U.S. to remain globally competitive, as well as providing greater access to health care, improving the education system, engaging in global investment and trade and reducing lawsuits.
“I believe that America’s best days are ahead, but they won’t come without constant change, flexibility and innovation,” Shaheen said. “American business is good at adapting, taking risks and fighting for survival. We need to continue to do these things to keep our edge.”
