Kubota named Georgia manufacturer of the year
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue named Kubota Manufacturing of America Georgia Manufacturer of the Year in the large-size company category on April 17. KMA was nominated for the award by Lanier Technical College. More than 100 other companies were nominated.

Volvo buys its largest U.S. dealer
Volvo Construction Equipment announced May 7 it has acquired the distribution businesses of L.B. Smith, its largest U.S. dealer and distributor for the majority of the East Coast. Volvo CE says it will continue operating the business from the existing 31 locations in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North and South Carolina, New Jersey, Virginia, eastern Pennsylvania and New York. Volvo CE will operate the company as LB Smith.

Vibromax launches North American website
Vibromax America announced last week it has launched a new website, www.vibromax-america.com. The site consists of public and dealer sections and is linked to Vibromax Compaction GmbH. The dealer locator section provides links to the websites of Vibromax machinery dealers in North America.

Cummins names Harris vice president-treasurer
Cummins announced May 2 the appointment of Richard E. Harris as vice president-treasurer. Harris recently served as assistant treasurer, global treasury for Compaq Computer Corporation. He succeeds Donald Trapp, who has been named vice president of business development.

Essex representative retires
After 47 years in the construction equipment industry, J. Patrick McGehee recently retired from Essex Crane Rental. McGehee was one of Essex’s top southern-based representatives. Although officially retired, McGehee will continue to assist Essex as a consultant.
