On Feb. 15, a 40-year-old Mansfield man, Christopher Hand, struck a flagman at a construction site on Route 195 in Connecticut and fled the scene, the Hartford Courant reports. The state police reported that the collision occurred about 1:40 a.m.
Police told the news agency that Hand was driving north on Route 195 when he veered out of his lane, struck a guardrail and a construction zone barrel, and hit 49-year-old flagman, Robert L. Harrison, throwing him approximately 27 feet over a guardrail. Hand then drove off and would not stop for a state trooper, who chased him onto the highway and pulled him over.
Hand was charged with disobeying the signal of an officer, evading responsibility and engaging police in pursuit, as well as having inadequate insurance. He was released after promising to appear in Superior Court in Rockville on Feb. 27.
Harrison was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford where it was determined that he had only minor injuries.
