Construction worker pulls man from burning vehicle after Illinois work zone crash

construction hard hatAn Illinois Tollway construction worker is being touted as a hero after pulling a man from a burning vehicle on Friday.

According to the Elgin Courier-News, a box truck on Interstate 90 slammed into the back of a vehicle stopped in traffic and caused a three-vehicle crash inside a construction zone at about 4 a.m. near Hampshire.

The middle vehicle then ignited and the man driving was trapped inside. A tollway worker inside the work zone saw what was going on and headed toward the flames to save the driver. The worker pulled the injured driver out of the vehicle to safety.

The man in the burning vehicle wasn’t the only one injured, though. The crash sent three people to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while two people were treated on the scene by paramedics.

The identity of the courageous construction worker was not reported.
