Doosan has upgraded its DL200 and DL220 wheel loaders to bring them in compliance with Tier 4 interim regulations. But the improvements don’t stop there as both loaders have benefited from increased horsepower and performance.
The 2.6-cubic-yard DL200 now boasts 160 horsepower over the 143 horsepower of the previous model. With a breakout force of 22,230 pounds, the new DL200 sees a bit of a dip from the previous model which had a breakout force of 23,149 pounds, according to the Equipment World 2012-2013 Spec Guide. However, the dumping height gets a boost from 9 feet, 2 inches to 9 feet, 6 inches in the new model. The DL200 is also available in a high-lift configuration, extending the dump height 15 inches above the standard DL250, to 10 feet 9 inches.
The 3.0-cubic-yard DL220 received a boost in horsepower, from 148 to 160, and breakout force, from from 22,928 to 23,650. The dump height is now 9 feet, 3 inches, down one inch from the previous model.
Both wheel loaders are powered by a 6-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine with a high-pressure common-rail (HPCR) design with direct fuel injection, electronic control and four valves per cylinder. Each loader’s new auto-idle feature provides additional noise reduction and fuel savings by reducing the working idle of the wheel loader from 950 rotations per minute to a standby idle setting of 750 rpm when the machine is inactive for a short period of time.
Doosan says the DL200 and DL220’s ability to set upper and lower limits for the lift arm and bucket stop positions from inside the cab translate to improved lifting performance while an optional fourth spool control valve provides operators the capability to use an attachment that requires an additional hydraulic function, such as snow blowers and snow blades. The new loaders also use an automatic-reversing cooling fan that keeps them going in dirty and dusty conditions.
In addition to several interior cab improvements, driving performance has been improved. These machines come standard with a limited slip differential, but an optional hydraulic locking front differential is available as well. This option provides increased driving power when one wheel spins or loses traction and improves machine performance when navigating tough terrain by allowing the operator to lock the differential manually or allow the machine to automatically engage the system.
Doosan says the new 542-cubic-inch engine inside the DL200 and DL220 provides a more efficient combustion that in turn produces more torque and improved fuel economy, less noise, lower operating costs and cleaner exhaust. In addition, service intervals on the front lift arm pins have increased from 50 to 250 hours, and tilt cylinder hydraulic hoses have been rerouted for improved hose reliability, better hose movement and improved visibility to the attachment.
