Transportation employment drops by 5,100 in June

The transportation sector lost 5,100 jobs in June, despite gains of 195,000 jobs in the overall U.S. economy, according to The Hill.

The figures come from a Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report, which showed that employment in the transportation sector dropped from 4,461,900 in May to 4,456,800 in June.

The “support activities for transportation” sector gained the most jobs in transportation in June, with an increase of 3,200 positions. Employment in this sector increased from 584,000 in May to 587,200 in June.

Transit and ground passenger experienced the most losses in transportation, decreasing from 468,600 jobs in May to 462,900 jobs in June.
