There's so much more you can do with your excavator than dig. These 15 attachments offer a range of options, from land clearing to demolition — even recycling rubble and other material for later use.
Land Clearing
Blue Diamond Attachments offers brush cutters for excavators in Extreme Duty and Severe Duty models for site prep and clearing jobs of all sizes. They come in a 60-inch width and are equipped with high-torque piston motors and three AR400 steel blades. Extreme Duty is for excavators weighing 28,000 to 38,000 pounds and can cut brush and trees up to 6 inches in diameter. The Severe Duty is for excavators of 38,000 to 60,000 pounds for up to a 7-inch cutting in diameter of brush and trees.
Diamond MowersDiamond Mowers’ Disc Mulcher Pro X can cut trees and brush up to 12 inches in diameter and mulch up to 6 inches. They are offered in cutting widths of 36 or 48 inches for excavators 6 to 27 metric tons. The mulching disc is geared toward large mulch and brush management. Its power comes from stored energy, not just hydraulic power. It is equipped with four-point hardened-steel teeth for cutting clean and quick like a chain saw. The teeth can be sharpened and rotated. The disc mulcher can cut in hard-to-reach areas.

Mongo Attachments’ ProGrade forestry mulcher line is designed for excavators from 7,000 to 26,000 pounds. The mulchers feature an offset drum with bite-limiting technology for producing fine material. Mongo says this design also allows the mulchers to maintain optimal rotor rpms while using only 15-35 gallons per minute of hydraulic flow. The mulchers, available in 27-, 35- or 41-inch widths, have a 6-inch cutting diameter for clearing a variety of vegetation densities.
FAE’s UMM/S/EX forestry mulcher is designed for excavators, particularly feller bunchers, from 25 to 40 tons. The mulcher can quickly clear large wooded areas or green spaces. It can cut through trees and vegetation up to 16 inches in diameter and has a working width of 62 inches. The mulcher’s hydraulic capacity ranges from 66 to 119 gallons per minute and up to 5,800 psi.The 100-cc VT automatic variable displacement motor provides constant speed to boost performance, minimize stalling and reduce fuel consumption, the company says.

NPK’s next-generation mid-range GHD series hydraulic hammers are for excavators ranging from 10 to 39 metric tons. The hammers feature a new speed selector valve that allows operators to match tool impact frequency to the material type and switch from anti-blank fire to blank fire. A slip-fit tool bushing is also new for easier maintenance. The series replaces the GH breakers, and the new models share the same tool and mounting kit as the previous generation for compatibility.
Montabert’s V47, V57 and V67 Variable-Speed Breakers are designed to improve performance while lowering operation and maintenance costs during rock breaking operations. The breakers automatically sense changes in material hardness and adjust the impact and strike rate to match conditions. This results in increased productivity, reduced blank firing, reduced wear and tear on components and less unnecessary harmful energy transferred back to the carrier machine, the company says. Models range from 30- to 88-ton excavators.John DeereJohn Deere calls its hydraulic hammers for midsize and large excavators an alternative to a wrecking ball on a big demolition job or a material breaker for landscaping, trenching, recycling and other tasks. The company offers five models from the 1,200 foot-pound HH90 to the 8,000 foot-pound HH145. The HH90 has a single-body design for easier service, requiring fewer parts and no special tools. The HH115, HH125, HH135 and HH145 models have a restrictor valve that protects against damage and premature failure from system overload.
KomasuKomatsu offers three types of hydraulic breakers. The G-series breakers (JTHB-G) combine hydraulics and nitrogen gas for a simpler, yet durable design. The H-series breakers (JTHB-H) are accumulator-type fully hydraulic breakers geared to rock and concrete demolition. The V-series (JTHB-V) are fully hydraulic and feature an energy-recovery valve for increased efficiency. They are designed for less vibration and noise and can be used in a variety of projects, including demolition, mass excavation or secondary breaking.
CaterpillarCaterpillar’s RC20 and RC30 rotary cutters are designed for demolition and controlled trenching in confined spaces. Not as loud as other breaking tools, rotary cutters create a more controlled breaking with high precision, making them ideal for working in confined or urban areas. They can be used with pin-on, S-type, Cat pin grabbers or CW couplers. The RC20 is for 20- to 34-ton excavators, and the RC30 fits 28- to 50-ton excavators. The cutters can be used underwater without modifications to the tool or excavator.
Genesis AttachmentsThe GRP 480 Rebar Processor from Genesis Attachments is a hydraulic mobile shear designed exclusively for processing rebar. Its bolt-on, weldable lower tusks work with the weldable, replaceable piercing blades to sort and separate rebar bundles. A bolt-on plate on the cutting side of the upper jaw has a replaceable wear surface. It has a 24-inch jaw opening and a 26-inch jaw depth. It fits up to 48,000-pound excavators second-member mounted and 90,000-pound carriers third-member mounted.
Toku’s Striker line includes the RS Series of crushers built with Hardox and Weldox steel. They feature two large cylinders, hydraulic 360-degree rotation and precise jaw positioning. Select models are available with energy recovery. A specialty clutch is available for excavators without rotation installation. Toku says the crushers are ideal for long-arm excavators.
On-Site Material Recycling
The Allu Concrete Bucket enables excavators to crush and screen concrete and brick rubble. The attachment can be fed with rubble up to 11.8 inches thick. It is compatible with excavators weighing 55,000 to 100,000 pounds with max pressure of 4,600 psi. The bucket features a 1.6-inch cutting edge and 1.2-inch side cutters. It can also serve as a pre-crushing tool when using mobile crushers, and it can handle rebar and other steel objects. The bucket can generate material from fine to coarse at a rate of 100 tons per hour, depending on the material.
Remu’s crusher buckets can process brick, rock, concrete and asphalt. The buckets first scoop the material then crush it into small pieces that sift out the bottom onto the ground. The buckets are ideal for demolition jobs, for processing the waste onsite and then reusing it or transporting it elsewhere. The Jaw-70 is for excavators between 12 and 20 metric tons, the Jaw-90 for 20 to 25 metric tons, and the Jaw-110 for over 25 metric tons. The buckets range in volumes of .6 to 1 cubic meter, and the size of the crushed material can be adjusted.
Grabbing and Placing
Werk-BrauWerk-Brau’s wide-mouth box-style grapple is made for gathering demolition debris, sorting materials, brush removal, soil scoring, root extraction and other landclearing and demolition tasks. The attachment is compatible with excavators ranging from 12 to 60 tons, and it is available with a variety of tine and width configurations. It can even be custom designed to match contractors’ specific needs. For example, the number and spacing of tines can be altered for a wider or narrower pickup stance.
CraigThe Craig Excavator Pipe Grapple has an “ultra-low-profile design” for loading and unloading pipe. The design enables better visibility and has dual-reinforced top clamps for moving a single pipe or filling the grapple to capacity. It is available in wedge lock, pin-on, S Series or manual bar lock lugging. Optional bolt-on lugging is also available. Simple chain tine adjustment is another feature on the pipe grapple.
