NRMCA introduces certification course for fleet managers

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has compiled a certification course for fleet managers of concrete mixer trucks. The course will be held September 30-October 2, 2008, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Key concepts that will be taught in the course include industry-specific fleet benchmarking, financial strategies and personnel management. Other course content will include a shop audit field exercise and ready mixed concrete-specific group workshops that will allow participants to learn new problem solving methods alongside industry veterans. The NRMCA’s goal in offering this course is to advance the overall knowledge and capabilities of ready mixed concrete fleet professionals.

“A ready mixed concrete producer’s fleet manager’s job performance can have a tremendous impact on a company’s bottom line,” says NRMCA senior vice president of operations and compliance, Gary Mullings. “This three-day workshop will prepare fleet professionals for the day-to-day management of maintenance shops, equipment, vendor relations, work processes and people.”

After completing NRMCA fleet managers certification course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify and analyze key maintenance costs and trends
  • Utilize several tools to help reduce shop costs and increase productivity
  • Examine threshold limits for decisions on whether to repair, replace or rebuild equipment
  • Negotiate with vendors and improve warranty recovery rates
  • Manage a productive workforce and develop employees
  • Understand and improve shop safety, environmental and DOT compliance
