Work begins on Jackson Lake Road bridge replacement in Henry County, Ga.

road work cones constructionA groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 10, marked the beginning of work to replace the Jackson Lake Road bridge over Mackey Creek in Henry County, Ga, the Henry Herald reports.

The project has a budget of more than $980,000. Moffatt & Nichol, Inc. designed it and the contractor is Georgia Bridge & Concrete, LLC. Work is expected to be completed in 10 months. Detour signs are now in place, directing drivers to alternate routes.

Present at the ceremony were District I Commissioner Bo Moss, District III Commissioner Gary Barham, County Manager Lyndon Bonner, SPLOST Transportation Director Roque Romero,  SPLOST Project Manager Bert Bevins, SPLOST Engineer Chae Yi, and other county employees.

“Thank you for allowing us to come out here and join this great celebration to get another SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) project done,” Commissioner Barham told reporters. “We currently have 14 bridge projects in place, and without SPLOST, we wouldn’t be able to complete any of them.”

“This is going to be a full blown bridge, completely torn down and rebuilt,” Commissioner Moss told the news agency. “Again, I want to thank the citizens for voting for SPLOST, supporting SPLOST, and we’re doing all of this one penny at a time.”
