General Motors
GMC’s 2027 Sierra 1500 pickups are expected to start hitting dealerships before the end of the year, marking a new generation for the model and its most powerful V8.
The Sierra gets redesigned inside and out, choice of four engines, including two new V8s and a diesel, and six trims.
The Sierra joins its companion Chevy Silverado 1500 in getting completely redesigned for the 2027 model year.
The Engines
The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate comes standard with GM's new, most powerful 6.7L V8 for a half-ton truck.General MotorsBuyers can choose from four engines, all of which are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission:
2.7L TurboMax — The standard gasoline engine for the Sierra gets a boost in horsepower and torque over the current engine to deliver 350 hp and 455 pound-feet of torque. GMC says it also gave it a new turbocharger, upgraded fuel injection, improved active thermal management and redesigned pistons.
5.7L Small Block V8 — The new sixth-generation engine delivers 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque, with up to 13,500 pounds of towing capacity and 2,310-pound payload.
6.6L Small Block V8 — “GMC’s most powerful half-ton V8 ever” delivers 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque. Both the next-gen 5.7L and 6.6L get “higher compression ratios, larger throttle bodies, tuned intake manifolds and a dual-fuel injection system that combines direct and port injection,” GMC says. They can also be paired with an available 34-gallon fuel tank.
