GM is recalling nearly 700,000 pickups over concerns that the electric power steering assist (EPS) could malfunction and lead to a crash.
Certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks are affected. A temporary loss of EPS assist is possible in these vehicles especially during low-speed turns which increases the risk of a crash, according to GM.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the EPS module software, free of charge. GM has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-432-8782. GM’s number for this recall is 17276.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
