Stantec was named Employer of the Year by the Los Angeles Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS LA), an organization devoted to professional development for women in the transportation sector.

Designed to recognize companies for their support of the goals and purpose of the WTS, Stantec was honored for its equal emphasis on technical expertise, professional development and cultivating opportunities for qualified female industry leaders.

Among the specific company attributes recognized by WTS LA was Stantec’s commitment to future industry leaders. Throughout its offices in North America, the company facilitates internship and mentorship programs for interested students at the high school and college level, to encourage future industry professionals, regardless of gender or ethnic descent.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this honor for our support of WTS and its goals as well as our outreach efforts to date and current professional development programs for our staff,” said Carl Clayton, senior vice president of transportation for Stantec. “Stantec was recently named in the top 10 of 100 best firms to work for in Canada – and top 10 Diversity Employer. We are well on our way to duplicating those efforts here in the United States.”

The award was one of several honors bestowed at WTS LA’s 25th Anniversary celebration and annual scholarship and awards dinner on Nov. 11 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. California Public Infrastructure Advisory Commissioner and Executive Director of the Urban Land Institute in Los Angeles, Katherine Aguilar Perez presented the award to Stantec’s Senior Associate Sheila Wray Given.

The Employer of the Year award is a distinction awarded annually by the WTS Los Angeles Chapter and is selected by the WTS LA board, comprised of industry leaders from both the public and private sector.
