Eaton to form joint venture for transmissions in China

Eaton announced plans Oct. 14 to form a joint venture in China with Shaanxi Fast Gear Works and Xiang Torch Investment to produce heavy-duty truck transmissions for the Chinese market. Eaton will own 55 percent of the joint venture, which will be called Eaton Fast Gear and will be based in Xi’an. Production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2004. SFGW is a manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty transmissions in China and Xiang. Torch Investment is the majority owner of SFGW. Eaton has supplied technology for heavy-duty truck transmissions to SFGW under a licensing agreement since 1985.
