To go more in-depth into JCB’s recent announcement of its “one-can” strategy for its Tier 4 Final EcoMax engines, I sat down with Alan Tolley, the manufacturer’s director of engine programs during the big Bauma 2013 show in Munich.

JCB says its Tier 4 Final approach builds on its Interim strategy, still staying away from the use of a diesel particulate filter and a diesel oxidation catalyst while introducing a selective catalytic reduction system on engines above 74 horsepower.

JCB is incorporating its SCR system into a single exhaust muffler, which it says can in many cases will replace the existing exhaust, giving the engines the compact dimensions desired by machine designers.
