Minnesota’s governor approves measure to increase biodiesel fuel

Minnesota has approved an initiative to require increased amounts of biodiesel blending through 2015 when Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty signed the Agriculture and Veterans Affairs bill in May.

The bill will increase Minnesota’s 2 percent biodiesel mandate to 5 percent by May 1, 2009. The bill will also increase the mandate to 10 percent on May 1, 2012 and to 20 percent on May 1, 2015. B10 and B20 will be authorized during the warmer months of April through October and B5 will be authorized for the rest of the year.

The bill will also give state regulators the choice of mandating B10 or B20 year-round if biodiesel standards are met.
