Senate approves terrorism insurance bill

The Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday requiring the federal government instead of insurance companies to pay the majority of financial losses resulting from future terrorist attacks. President Bush, a proponent of the bill, said it will get the nation’s hard hats back on the job.

In an 86-11 vote, the Senate endorsed the terrorism insurance bill the House approved Thursday. Bush now has to sign the legislation, which would become effective immediately.
