As part of the Wirtgen Group booth, Hamm introduced a new generation of pneumatic tire rollers at Bauma 2019.

The first models—the HP 180, HP 280 and HP 280i—offer operating weights between 10 ton and 28 ton and feature a variable ballasting concept. This allows you to adjust the operating weight to match the asphalt type, thickness and application by adding or removing steel, magnetite or concrete ballast bodies between the axles. The ballast components are mounted in the center of the machine to evenly distribute weight.

Both the water and diesel tanks on these rollers are sized to last the day without the need for refills. A supplementary water tank with a volume of 1,500 liters (396 gallons) is also available to use for the sprinkling system or as extra weight.

To help manage the application of new specialty asphalt mixes, the sprinkler system no longer needs additives to be mixed with the water. On the new machines the additive is simply filled without premixing.

Hamm designed the operator’s platform for panoramic views, complying with the new ISO 5006-2017 standard, giving you a clear view of the outer flanks of the front and rear wheels.

The HP 180, HP 280 and HP 280i all run on 114 horsepower engines. The HP 180i has a 74 horsepower engine. The new rollers will replace the existing GRW series over the next two years.

Hamm also introduced a new technology to bring oscillating capabilities to its split drum roller the DV+90i VS-OS and which will also be available for all other rollers in the DV+ series.

An individual, mechanically-independent oscillation unit operates in each half of the split oscillation drum and ensures that the two drum halves always vibrate synchronously despite their different rotation speeds around corners. The company also announced that their drums are now completely maintenance free, eliminating toothed belt and oil changes.
