GEAR: Navistar’s MaxxPro Recovery Vehicle rescues battlefield vehicles from sticky situations

When one of the U.S. military’s big, tough and expensive vehicles gets stuck in a precarious situation on the battlefield, who do they call? Most likely, it’s one of these bad boys.

This is Navistar’s MaxxPro Recovery Vehicle, a hulking off-road force that can go into dangerous situations or terrains and pull out detained comrades. The MRV is powered by  Navistar’s MaxxForce 9.3D, an I-6 diesel engine that delivers 375 horsepower and a huge 1,250 lb-ft of torque.

Of course to do its job well, the MRV needs to offer serious protection. The vehicle offers protection against small arms fire and has a V-shaped hull that serves to deflect IED (improvised explosive device) blasts away from the vehicle.

To accomplish its main task, the MRV has a 30-ton boom recovery body with a crane mounted on the rear side of the chassis. The crane is capable of rescuing just about any military vehicle you can think of.
