Ford is laying claim to the towing and hauling crown with its 2021 Ford F-150.

The nation’s top selling half-ton truck now has a best-in-class max tow rating of 14,000 pounds and a best-in-class max payload capacity of 3,325 pounds.

Those record numbers come with Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and Max Trailer Tow Package which delivers an 800-lb. increase, or 6% gain in towing and a 95-lb. uptick, or a roughly 3% gain, in payload over the 2020 model.

Ford also announced that its 2021 F-150 equipped with its new 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid powertrain is rated at 570 lb.-ft. torque, the most ever in an F-150. The 430-hp pickup has a 12,700-lb. max tow rating and a max payload of 2,120 pounds for the Crew Cab 4Ă—2 model with 6.5-foot box.

Power for the hybrid F-150 comes from a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine mated to Ford’s 10-speed transmission which includes a 35kw electric motor that generates the equivalent of 47 horsepower. The standard Pro Power Onboard generator delivers unmatched exportable power, 2.4 kilowatts of standard power and an available 7.2 kilowatts which Ford says is enough to power 28 average refrigerators.

Fuel economy and price have yet to be released though that shouldn’t be too much longer since the truck is slated to hit dealers this fall.
Ford’s other F-150 engines get more power for model year 2021. The 5.0-liter V8 gets a bump of 5 horsepower and 10 lb.-ft. of torque, to 400 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft., while the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is now rated at 400 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft., a jump of 25 horsepower and 30 lb.-ft. of torque.

The all-new F-150 brings features like available Pro Power Onboard, Interior Work Surface, Pro Trailer Backup Assist and a Tailgate Work Surface, plus advanced driver-assist and connectivity technology. Standard over-the-air updates keep F-150 tech-ready, while its all-new interior is designed to be comfortable, useful and connected.
