The smallest of LiuGong’s new F-series excavators has arrived in the United States for dealer review.

The 1.8-metric-ton 9018F features a retractable undercarriage width from 51 to 39 inches for working in tight spaces and for fitting through bay doors. It also features reduced tail swing. The narrower width, along with its low height of 7 feet 9 inches, makes it easier to transport, the company says.

The sixth-generation compact excavator runs on an 18-horsepower Yanmar engine. The hydraulic system is designed to save fuel by using 15 to 20 percent less engine power than its predecessor. The 14.5-gallon-per-minute proportional control valve is designed for better flow to attachments.

The excavator comes standard with a hydraulic thumb. The operator can set hydraulic flow to the thumb and to the hammer shear from the in-cab monitor, the company says. Auxiliary hydraulic functions are controlled by electrical proportional solenoids.

Machine functions are controlled by joysticks and travel pedals. The operator can now change travel speed while still holding the blade control during backfilling and dozer operation by pressing the top of the handle to select either high or low speed.

The excavator comes equipped with a canopy design or a closed pressurized cab with heater and window defroster. The company says most aftermarket technologies, like those offered by Trimble for gradeability, can be installed. Telematics will be available as an aftermarket add-on.

LiuGong says the 9018F is undergoing evaluation and that it meets or exceeds North American standards. It comes with a three-year/4,000-hour warranty.
