Milwaukee Tool’s new dust box for two of its HAMMERVAC dust extractors for drills and rotary hammers provides filter cleaning with the touch of a button.

The filter-cleaning feature is another product designed to ease the construction industry’s compliance with recent federal rules to reduce crystalline silica dust from entering the air and workers’ lungs, the company says. Full enforcement of the silica rules began October 23. Since then, 116 violations have been issued by OSHA, according to Bloomberg BNA.

The dust box works on the company’s M12 Universal HAMMERVAC Dust Extractor and its M18 Dedicated HAMMERVAC. The HAMMERVACs fit directly to the drill or hammer and suck up dust during operations. With the new dust box, the HAMMERVAC units are now compliant with OSHA’s Table 1 silica-rule standards. When it comes time to empty the dust box, the user can press a button twice on the side of the unit, which will shake off the HEPA filter to clean it. The filter can also be replaced independently of the dust box. Keeping the filter clean provides efficient suction.

The M12 Universal HAMMERVAC is compatible with all major power tool brands of SDS Plus Rotary Hammers and AC/DC Hammer Drills, and the M18 connects to M18 FUEL 1-inch and 1-1/8-inch SDS Plus Rotary Hammers, the company says.
