Case updates N Series backhoes with new PowerBoost function, host of other upgrades

Case N Series Backhoe Updates 3 1920

Case Construction Equipment has launched a major update for its N Series backhoe loader lineup that brings several meaningful upgrades to these machines.

Leading off this 2019 model year update is a feature Case says is an industry exclusive. It’s called PowerBoost and allows the operator to get a “momentary boost of increased hydraulic power” at the push of a button on the backhoe’s left-hand joystick.

Case says PowerBoost is useful when digging in tough conditions like hard clay, rocky soil or through frost. Augmenting PowerBoost is PowerLift, which provides an increase in lifting power comparable to that of a mid-size excavator. This power increase comes at a lower engine rpm for smoother lifting and craning operations, Case says.

You can watch a video rundown that illustrates the new features below.

A major new option for these machines is a new factory-installed hydraulic thumb. The thumb is available on all N Series extendahoe models and is compatible with either a mechanical or hydraulic bucket coupler. The new extendahoe models include the mounting provision for the new thumb, allowing customers to add it after purchase without needing any additional welding.

More new controls

In addition to the PowerBoost button, Case has added new roller switches to the joysticks for auxiliary and extendahoe control, along with three more switches that provide new loader control functions:

  1. A declutch trigger on the back of the joystick that simplifies operation during repetitive or continuous tasks like loading trucks.
  2. A new roller/rocker switch with a detent position that can be locked in the forward position for use with attachments.
  3. A new F-N-R switch allows for quick directional changes without taking your hands off the joystick.

More power and speed

Another new feature called DirectDrive improves on Case’s PowerDrive S-Type and H-type transmissions. Direct Drive, Case says, improves gradeability and fuel economy while delivering faster roading speeds and travel times.

Case notes that it has also increased the horsepower on its 580SN Wide track model for 2019 to 110 horsepower. And on the 580N and up, Case has implemented a new electronic fuel priming system that evacuates all air out of the fuel lines for more efficient fuel filter servicing. The system is easily accessible at ground level.

Cab updates

Inside the cab, operators will find an improved air-ride seat design with more cushioning. A new heated, air suspension seat is an available option.

A new standard N Series feature is a Bluetooth radio allowing operators to take phone calls and listen to music from the smartphone. The new radio also features Sirius XM capability.
