Shawmut Celebrates 60 Years – Boom Truck

Nonresidential sends construction spending down 1.3% in June

Decreases in spending on apartment homes and nonresidential projects were the difference in June’s construction spending report, as total U.S. spending fell 1.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.205 trillion.

Despite the monthly drop, the annual rate remains 1.6 percent above the June 2016 rate.

Total residential spending fell 0.3 percent in June to a rate of $508.8 billion. Private homebuilders spent 0.3 percent more on the construction of new single-family homes, bringing that rate up to $261.3 billion, a 9-percent improvement over the year-ago figure.

Smith Concrete, The Shelly Company host childhood cancer fundraising event

Smith Concrete, a part of The Shelly Company, played host to community members and individuals from other areas of Ohio, as well as individuals from out of state, who came together to participate in the fundraising event known as the “Rolling for BrAva” Dice Run on June 11.

BrAva is a local non-profit organization with a goal of raising Childhood Cancer awareness and helping families that are dealing with that issue.

This year, 146 people registered for the BrAva event, which was more than last years number.

Prinoth adds Company Wrench to North American dealer network

Tracked vehicle manufacturer Prinoth has added Carroll, Ohio-based Company Wrench to its North American dealer network to represent the company’s Panther vehicles in the state.

“With the confidence in the construction industry on the rise, we believe that this market will generate a high interest level for our vehicles,” says Alessandro Ferrari, Vice President of Sales at Prinoth.

Ferrari adds the company is seeing growing interest in dealers to represent the company’s products. “Since CONEXPO in particular, there is an important demand from dealers wanting to represent the line,” he says.

Empire Crane names Pitre manager of New Jersey branch

Empire Crane Company has named Karl Pitre the new branch manager of the company’s Bridgewater, New Jersey, location with oversight of the serve center, parts sales and sales team support.

Pitre began his career with Empire Crane in 2012, and was named service manager for the Bridgewater branch when it first opened.

Manitowoc Crane dealer Shawmut Equipment marks 60 years

Shawmut Equipment, which carries Manitowoc Crane Group’s construction cranes and multiple lines of utility equipment, celebrates 60 years in business this year.

George O’Connell founded the company in 1957 and members of his family continue to run the business today, with his son David taking over as president in 1978 and David’s sons Brian and Kevin and nephew Joe Vergoni joining the business in the early 2000s. The latter three serve as vice presidents and sales reps for the company.

The company carries Manitowoc Crawler Cranes, Grove Rough Terrain Cranes, Grove GMK All Terrain Cranes, Grove Hydraulic Crawler Cranes, Grove Yard Boss Industrial Cranes, National Boom Trucks, Potain Self-Erecting Cranes, Terex TM Hi-Ranger Tracked Material Handling Buckets, Terex General Digger Derricks, Tracked National Cranes and Morooka Rubber Track Carriers.
