Now it’s bringing more of its electric construction equipment to North America, with the latest being the 27-metric-ton 924FE excavator. The company launched its first EV excavator in international markets in 2020.
The Chinese manufacturer, which claims more than 60,000 battery-electric machines operating globally on active jobsites, says the 924FE can work in the most demanding conditions with zero emissions and low noise.
The excavator’s focus is tunnel construction, with rocky conditions, low oxygen levels and strict emission limits. But its uses can extend beyond that to jobs in crowded urban areas, noise-sensitive neighborhoods, emission-restricted zones and enclosed indoor environments, according to LiuGong.
Because of its quiet operation, it can also be used to work at night.
“The 924FE isn't just an alternative to diesel, it's an upgrade in every sense,” the company says.
The excavator runs on a lithium-iron phosphate battery with 528 kWh capacity. The Weiteli permanent magnet synchronous motor produces the equivalent of 154 horsepower.
The company says the excavator can run 8 to 10 hours on a single charge and can charge from 15% to 100% in under 3 hours.

Its features include “high-efficiency hydraulics, a comprehensively strengthened chassis and rugged reliability,” according to LiuGong.
Along with saving on diesel fuel, the 924FE’s electric powertrain has fewer moving parts, which results in “reduced maintenance requirements” and “a total cost of ownership that outpaces conventional diesel excavators by a wide margin,” the company says.
