Mattracks, which specializes in converting wheeled vehicles to rubber tracks, has expanded its product line with the new RT275 and RT400 for full-sized equipment.
The two-track system is built to keep machines ranging from 27,500 pounds to 40,000 pounds moving through mud, saturated soil and other unstable ground. The bolt-on design lets operators convert equipment from tires to tracks and back as conditions change, increasing the versatility of one machine.
“We designed the RT Series so crews wouldn’t have to shut down every time the ground got soft. In one field test, a machine running our tracks was able to drive right past the spot where a wheeled machine had gotten stuck, and then pull it out. That’s the kind of situation these systems are built for,” says Dan Laux, vice president, Mattracks.
The RT275 has 20-inch-wide tracks, and the RT400 has 24-inch-wide tracks for a larger contact area and lower ground pressure than tires. This allows the machines to maintain traction and flotation with less rutting and surface disturbance, the company says.
The tracks can be driven on firm surfaces, including pavement and concrete, in addition to soft or unstable terrain. Mattracks says the RT Series can also reach areas that may be inaccessible to comparable dedicated tracked machines, giving operators greater flexibility across changing jobsites.

Internal Suspension for a Smooth Ride
The internal suspension system allows each track to follow the terrain instead of forcing the machine to absorb bumps and changes in elevation, creating a smoother ride, reducing vibration transferred to the equipment and operator and limiting unnecessary wear on the machine, the company says.
Rubber isolation mounts provide additional vibration reduction, while the anti-torque design allows the track systems to move with changing terrain, the company says. Machines equipped with RT Series tracks “maintain traction and responds more consistently to operator input while preserving the machine’s turning radius and steering.”
