Timberking forestry equipment to take on Cat brand name

Through a new agreement with Blount International, Caterpillar is replacing the Timberking brand name, which includes products manufactured by both Cat and Blount, with the Caterpillar and Cat brands.

In the original March 2003 agreement, Blount sold certain forestry equipment under the Cat-owned Timberking brand and provided marketing and product support to Caterpillar dealers worldwide. In the agreement, Blount will be responsible for marketing and product support for Cat forestry equipment, except for skidders and forestry excavators. Cat-branded forestry machines are sold through Caterpillar’s existing dealer organization.

“We are pleased to have this recognition and acceptance of our manufacturing capabilities from Caterpillar,” said Dennis Eagan, president of Blount’s industrial and power equipment group.

The Caterpillar and Cat branded forestry equipment will include track feller bunchers, wheel feller bunchers, track harvesters, wheel harvesters, forwarders, truck- and trailer-mounted knuckleboom loaders and pedestal-mounted loader.

Caterpillar recently expanded production at its forestry manufacturing plant in LaGrange, Ga., that will produce the new track feller bunchers. Blount also has three manufacturing facilities producing Cat branded products.

First shipments of Cat branded track feller bunchers and harvesters are expected by the end of February. The full line of Cat branded forestry machines will be available at Caterpillar dealerships worldwide within the next several months.
