Volvo seeking ‘spirit’ operators

If you operate Volvo construction equipment, you could win a trip to Spain, a trophy and Volvo Ocean Race merchandise. Volvo says the prize package is the least the company can do to award one energized, spirit-filled equipment operator for his or her efforts throughout the year.

This is the first year the company will present the Volvo Spirit Operator of the Year Award.

“It was founded in May 2005,” said Beatrice Cardon, editor of Volvo Construction Equipment Magazine and co-founder of the award. “Every year there will be one winner of the award and two runners-up.”

Cardon said VCE was searching for someone with a passion and devotion toward his or her job. An article about the award in Volvo’s magazine mentioned people who have overcome obstacles in their careers as possible candidates.

The winner will receive a trip for two to the start of the Volvo Ocean Race in Galicia, Spain, on November 12. Expenses paid by Volvo include travel in economy class, lodging and meals for five days. The two runner-ups will each receive an Ocean Race multi-tool Gerber MP400 and an Ocean Race 27-liter backpack.

Anyone can nominate a candidate for the award, Cardon said, but the winner must be a Volvo operator. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 19.

To enter, individuals must submit a nomination form online or send it to:

Volvo Construction Equipment
Hunderenveld 10
Brussels 1082, Belgium

Cardon, Volvo CE personnel and Tony Helsham, president and chief executive of Volvo CE will make up the judging panel.
