To recognize the efforts of law enforcement officers to reduce equipment thefts, the American Rental Association, ARA Insurance Services and the National Equipment Register have created the “ARA Insurance Services/NER Award.”
The annual award will recognize a law enforcement officer or agent who has helped recover stolen construction equipment or helped reduce equipment thefts through theft-prevention programs.
“We get calls from officers at 2 in the morning who are in the middle of a field with a flashlight and a screwdriver looking at a type of machine they have never seen before,” NER president David Shillingford said. “These are dedicated officers who are going beyond anyone’s expectations to carry out investigations that many would not. These efforts often go unnoticed and this award is a way of honoring and thanking those who make this effort.”
ARA members may nominate officers who have helped them combat theft on the local level during 2004. A five-person panel of judges from ARA, AIS and NER management will choose the award recipient. The first recipient will be named at The Rental Show, which will be held Feb. 14-17 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
