BRAC bringing in the bucks

If you don’t know what BRAC is, it stands for Base Realignment and Closure and it’s one of the top sources of construction money coming from the federal government. BRAC is the process of closing and consolidating military installations all across the country, but the consolidation end of things is breathing new life into the states and communities where new facilities are being built. And there’s even work to be found in the military facilities being shuttered as these are often converted into residential and mixed commercial projects. The work is substantial and diversified including commercial building, utility work, paving and roadbuilding and landscaping upgades. The decommissioning of one of my old Army haunts, Fort Ben Harrison, generated lots of construction and helped revitalize Lawrence, Indiana, just outside Indianapolis. To find out more about what BRAC might be doing in your area check out the official website.
