Bomag has introduced the BW138AC-5 combination roller, designed for asphalt compaction and steep grade applications.

The 54-inch-wide roller and features a traditional vibratory steel drum in the front and four smooth pneumatic tires at the rear, creating a combination design.

A Tier 4i 4-cylinder Kubota diesel engine powers the 4.5-ton machine.

The BW138AC-5 has a large 35.4-inch-diameter drum that delivers a low rolling resistance, smooth rear pneumatic tires that ensure even compaction and tires with high traction to allow for performance on inclined surfaces.

The machine also includes a pressure water sprinkler system with a high-capacity 76-gallon water tank; filtered spray nozzles and an interval sprinkler timer, solid windscreen; flexible, spring-actuated scrapers; and a separate 13-gallon tank that holds emulsion liquids.

The suspended, vibration-isolated operator’s platform has comfort- and visibility-enhancing features such as a fully adjustable and laterally sliding seat, multifunctional dual travel levers and the Smart Drive steering wheel.

The foldable roll-over protection structure (ROPS) comes standard with a number of safety features, including a seat belt, back-up alarm, emergency stop button and front and rear working lights for night operation. The roller’s engine hood and instrument panel can be locked to prevent vandalism.

Maintenance is made easy, since no daily grease points are required.

An optional Bomag Economizer is also available to provide a real-time reading of soil stiffness during the compaction process.
