The California Department of Transportation closed the Interstate 580 Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in the San Francisco Bay Area at approximately 11 a.m. February 7, after concrete chunks fell from the westbound upper deck onto the eastbound lower deck, the Associated Press reports.

Some of the concrete chunks were reportedly larger than a baseball.

All lanes of the bridge were reopened several hours later after the concrete was cleared and it was determined that it was safe for vehicles. At least one car was hit and damaged by the falling concrete, but no injuries were reported.
