NCDOT adds 144 projects valued at $2.5 billion to 10-year plan

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has updated its draft 2018-2027 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) plan to include an additional 144 projects totaling $2.5 billion compared to the draft released in January.

Officials say the projects were added following updated revenue projections. The agency will also be able to accelerate another 350 projects in the plan.

“Being able to add these projects and accelerate others aligns with our goals of expediting project delivery and promoting economic growth to improve quality of life for all North Carolinians,” says North Carolina Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon.

The majority of the updates (82) include highway projects, followed by bicycle/pedestrian projects (20), transit updates (20), aviation projects (11), rail projects (10) and one ferry project.

NCDOT has opened a public comment period through July 12 on the updated STIP. More details on the plan are available here.

North Carolina’s STIP was originally to be approved by the state Board of Transportation at its June meeting. It now is expected to be approved in August.
