Joseph Shrock, owner of Shrock Premier Custom Construction in Loudonville, Ohio, was named Equipment World’s 2019 Contractor of the Year at ceremonies Saturday in Las Vegas.

In 1983, Shrock bought his father’s small construction company and has since turned it into a multi-million commercial and residential general contractor firm.

In the beginning, Joseph Shrock would make business calls from a pay phone down the road from his home, even during Ohio’s freezing winters. At the time, his Amish church district prohibited members from having a telephone in the home.

Over the years, the company has grown to 35 employees and grew 80 percent in 2018. With Joseph’s leadership skills, Shrock lands a variety of large contracts, including residential developments, campgrounds, gas stations and church renovations. Shrock prefers handling the entire project, doing all the work in-house, from land-clearing to finished product.

The company receives high praise from its clients, who admire the company’s integrity and quality work.

“I chose Joseph because of his integrity,” says Faith Life Church Senior Pastor Gary Keesee. “He demands excellence from himself and his team. He was always on time. When he said he’d do something, it was done – just absolutely amazing.”

Adds Dwight Hackworth of Michael Baker International, “I can’t really say enough positive things about Joseph Shrock. He loves his people; he loves his job. And it just keeps growing. His business just keeps expanding. Wherever he goes, he seems to make it work.”

Since its inception in 2000, the Contractor of the Year program has been sponsored by Caterpillar. Each year, the editors of Equipment World elect 12 finalists from submitted applications; all company finalists receive a weekend at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas.

The Contractor of the Year program includes a Friday night roundtable, Saturday morning focus group and an awards banquet. All finalists then become Caterpillar’s VIP guests while attending a NASCAR race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
