A potential tire failure risk has led GM to recall certain late model pickups and vans.

Continental tires may fail on some 2018-2021 Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans as well as 2019-2020 Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra pickups.

“Over-cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall resulting in sudden air loss or a belt edge separation which could lead to a tread/belt loss,” the recall notice states on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. “Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.”

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, replacing them as necessary, free of charge.

Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N212329050.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
