Sunstate Equipment, an equipment rental company with branches in eight Southern states, has registered its fleet with the National Equipment Register in an effort to deter theft and increase the chances of recovering stolen equipment. NER provides identification advice and ownership information from its databases of millions of equipment theft and ownership records to law enforcement agents seeking to identify suspicious equipment. Don Cash, corporate risk manager for Sunstate, said theft is a significant problem for rental companies and their clients, particularly in Southern states. NER’s services compliment Sunstate’s existing theft prevention efforts and are cost effective, Cash continued. All mobile Sunstate units will be marked with decals warning thieves the equipment is registered on a national database used extensively by law enforcement agencies.
