Skyjack continued the TH Series telehandler introductions, which it debuted last year, unveiling the 12,000-pound lift capacity SJ1256 TH prototype at the World of Concrete today. Production on the unit will start this May.

“The four machines we introduced last year exceeded our goals,” says Barry Greenaway, senior project manager, Skyjack, “and this machine continues the theme.  We wanted to keep things simple, so there are no fancy computer displays, just a simple, rugged machine.”

The new unit shares 70 percent commonality of parts with the company’s SJ1056, and is designed for heavy duty applications such as oil and gas jobsites. The machine shares the same control systems, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic layout with the rest of the TH range. It can lift up to 12,000 pounds to a height of 35 feet with outriggers deployed, and 1,000 pounds at a maximum forward reach of 42.6 feet without deploying outriggers.

With a maximum lift height of 56 feet, 3 inches, the SJ1256 TH has a 3,500-pound capacity at maximum forward reach and a yoke-mounted lifting hoot.

As with the previously introduced machines in this series, the SJ1256 telehandler has a FlexCab, which allows rental companies and other owners to quickly switch from a canopy unit to a fully enclosed cab, handy if the machine is dispatched to another geographical area. The 107-horsepower unit uses SCR emissions technology and diesel emissions fluid, but does not require a diesel particulate filter, allowing regens to be scheduled as part of the machine’s regular PM program.

The TH series models introduced last year used 74-horsepower engines with two of the models delivering 50 percent-and-above potential grade ability with no increase in hydraulic function times.

Those models ranged from the 6,000-pound, 43-foot-reach SJ 643 TH to the SJ 1056 TH, a 10,000-pound machine with 56 feet of reach.

Commenting on the company’s market position, Brad Boehler, Skyjack president, says Skyjack saw another year of growth, even though globally, overall sales of scissors, booms and telehandler were down. “We grew significantly in our telehandler market share, because of the new products we introduced last year,” he says.
