The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently received an award for the “most innovative team” by Public Sector Partners during the Government Transformation and Innovation event as a result of the agency’s QuickMap mobile app
QuickMap allows motorists to view closures and traffic incidents as well as other travel information.
“QuickMap connects motorists to the information they need to make informed travel decisions,” says Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “Caltrans will continue to find innovative ways to make traveling on our highways more safe and convenient.”
The app displays a user’s location on a map in addition to real-time information including traffic speeds, road closures, California Highway Patrol incidents, chain controls, fire locations, electronic highway sign messages and live traffic cameras. It was launched as an online version in 2011, followed by an Android version in August 2016 and an iOS version in January.
